Movie Review: Marrowbone (SPOILER ALERT!!)

GREETINGS PEEPS!

Hope you’re all having a great day, cause after this post it’s gonna be a bad one. Just kidding! So in today’s post I’m doing something I haven’t done is CENTURIES and that is a movie review.

Yas, most of you may not know it *none of you know it* , but I actually did a movie review once on this blog. It was about 2 years and something ago. Click here to check it out, if you want. 😅 *if you do check it out, I’m sorry if my English was bad or if I made a lot of mistakes*

Anyway, today I’m reviewing DUN DUUN DUUUUUNNNNN…..

MARROWBONE!!

So as some of you may know, on Halloween, me and my friends went to the movie theater to watch this movie and they told me it wasn’t gonna be scary but it turned out to scary the eff out of me. 😂😂 I wasn’t the only one who got scared though, other 2 of my friends were like: WT* was that?

Anyways, let’s move on to the review:

SPOILER ALERT:

*I’ve always wanted to say that* 😆 I’m gonna make A LOT of spolers, lots of them, I’m basically gonna tell you EVERYTHING. I didn’t actually wanna do this at first but this movie’s plot is very complicated and it has so many hard things to understand (and obviously explain) so I decided to just say it all.

Sorry. Don’t read this if you wanna watch the movie sometime.

Le Review:

Info and blah blah:

Premiere date: September 11, 2017

Director: Sergio G. Sánchez

Language: English

Producers: Lionsgate Films, Telecinco Cinema

Wikipedia also says it’s Thriller/Drama but it’s scary.. AF!

Story:

So it’s basically this really cute and nice family: a mother with 4 children, two of them boys, a girl and a little boy and a dad.

The dad IS CRAZAY!!

And because he’s effing cray, the mother and the kids go to America to the mum’s old house and they adopt their mum’s maiden name; Marrowbone. She dies and the eldest guy bascially is in charge of the situation.

One beautiful day, dun dun dunnnnn….

THE DAD FINDS THEM!

And in this part is when things get REAL messed up. 💁 The dad wants to recover some money the mom stole him. The eldest gives it to him but as the man was a murderer and blah blah and the same eldest kid *I should call ’em by the names*, Jack, accused him. 😱

So here some battle thing happens, and the dad leaves Jack unconscious and the basically kills the siblings. Jack locks his dad in the attic till he dies, and because Jack’s schizophrenic (for real) he acts like his siblings are still alive. 😱 I think THAT was the scariest part.

Apparently, the house is not theirs yet but they have no money apart from some bills they stole their dad (an that’s why he found them before).

LONG STORY SHORT: The kids (he, cause dey all dead) grabs the money, the “ghost gets mad”, he returns it, needs it again and grabs it risking his life SO EFFING BAD and I’mma tell you why.

THE DAD’S NOT DEAD?! WTF?!

He had been surviving from eating lil’ animals like rats and drinking the water from the rain (which he could get cause the chimney was there. Or was it just a whole on the roof? IDK 😅😅

Anyway, so Jack gets hurt REAL bad, like, he had an effing BIG wound in his abs I think.

Some time later, a really good friend he had (and before, they had) goes to his house and finds out he’s effing crazy and finds out the dad is alive so she goes upstairs with the dad. Yes, to the attic. He’s about to kill her but Jack shoots him with a shotgun.

So problem solved. Jack and the girl live together in the house and she helps him cope with his mental illness. The doctor gives him pills so he doesn’t imagine his siblings going around the house like nothing’s going on. 😂

THE END

I skipped a lot of things in the story but I told you the main plot.

Le Review:

I didn’t HATE it but I don’t like scary movies because they SCARY!! So yeah, I actually don’t hate the story, I like the fact that nothing is expected and there were many twists, but they were scary.

Did I like the end? I liked that the dad died, but he should’ve died from the beginning so the other kids don’t die we all live happily ever after and I wouldn’t have been scared AF. 😭 Why movie directors?!

I appreciate the fact that there were no ghosts more monsters nor scary dolls. But maybe that would’ve been less scary than this. Specially cause this could happen in real life. Uhuh.

I give it 4 stars, I like the movie, but I removed one cause it scared me, but not as much as I expected. I didn’t get as bad sleep as I thought. Now I’m sleeping totally normally, but yeah.

I feel like no one is going to read this cause no one likes spoilers. 😅

Thanks so much to Bella @ TotallyRandom *follow her blawg, it’s so cool and she’s super funny* for recommending me to make this review!! Sorry Bella, hope you didn’t mind the spoilers. 😅😅

🤡🤡🤡

Btw I recently made a video where I played Roblox horror games, especially this game called The Mimic Book 2. Hope you enjoy :3

I hope you liked this post in spite of the spoilers and the lame opinion. I had fun making this! Maybe I’ll make a better one someday. I hope you guys have an amazing day/night and ‘ll see you next week!!

SEE YA PEEPS!

  1. Hey, watched the movie and the end totally messed me out. Found out all the siblings were all dead and and it got my WTF moment at 99%.
Been looking all over the network to see what someone else thought and am glad I stumbled upon this. The part where you say the dad was always alive explains it all to me. Thank you.

  2. I enjoyed the read. I don’t like watching scary movies because I’m too scared but at the same time I want to know what they are about. So rather than watching it I look for spoilers. So this is perfect for me.

  3. Hope you don’t get a duplicate of this post. I didn’t get one thing in the movie. Didn’t jack stab his father in the neck with a knife after he handed his father the money and they were fighting? Then jack ran off and his father appeared looking fine and threw him off the cliff. What am I missing here?

    • LOL me either, I had to ask my friends what was going on with the siblings 😛
Omg he had right? Well, as people say in my town; bad plants never die. 😛 Nor main characters 😀

  4. I like your review. It was refreshing and simple which is good! I too liked the movie but I actually like scary movies but I like to think I like “good” scary movies meaning movies that give you the chill down your spine without really showing anything shocking or bloody, just an aura of spookiness throughout the movie.
Will have to look for more of your reviews!

    • Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed! Yeah, I liked the story, and actually I think what makes me more scared is that he saw his siblings even though they were dead, and there were no ghosts 😮
Thank you so much, what movies would you like me to review? 🙂

  6. Hi Ana I liked ur review about the movie but the reason why I was searching for the reviews and story of the movie is because I am totally confused why was Alie not giving medicine to jack? They showed she was just putting the medicine in cabinet and so far she had collected around 5 or 6 bottles of tablets .🤷

    • Hi Arifa! Well, I think she was giving medicine to Jack, but maybe they just recorded her putting the bottles in the cabinet to show she bought them and is administrating them to him. I guess. 😛

  7. He doesn’t take the pills. They’re all in the medicine cabinet. That’s why he sees his siblings at the end. Also why the girl has to leave him alone for a bit, because he can’t see them when she’s there (he shouts at her for that about 5 minutes before).

    • Oh he doesn’t? I thought he did. I thought he saw the siblings as a way of conveying people they were gone when he took the pills.
And lol I didn’t understand the last part, this movie was so confusing 😛

  8. I read it. I totally didn’t get it at the end, and was like wait, were all the sibling dead this whole time? Thats horrible that the dad would kill his own kids. Especially for money they didn’t steal. Sad, but very interesting twist

    • Yeah right? I freaked it it was awful 😖
And yeah, specially cause they were not been guilty, in all cases I would be Jack but still you can’t kill him!!!
      The twist was VERY unexpected

  10. Glad you spoiled the movie because it was so confusing, it gave me a headache, but being that I hate the unknown, I searched for an explanation and found your blog. Thank you!

  11. Thank you for explaining what I just watched. Loved the movie but was a little confused about the time line of the kids death, wasn’t sure when it happened or if they even existed but your review cleared it all up !!!!! 😊

  12. You know, I read a lot of movie reviews and listen to TV film critics bloviate on about some pretty trivial things, using clever references and big words for that veneer of intellectual credibility at the expense of my time. It’s refreshing to read a review that is so honest, thoughtful and to-the-point.

One thing I would suggest is to consider the target audience when determining the rating or score you want to give a particular film. Since this movie fits squarely within the ‘horror’ genre, I’d say the fact that you found it so terrifying should ADD points to the score, not deduct them. Now, if this was a comedy and it left you shaking in your boots THAT would qualify for a deduction, but horror movies are SUPPOSED to be scary! Lots of people actually like being scared. Personally, I usually struggle with the believability of most horror movies, so the ones that can actually pull off the fear factor with me are gems in my book.

    Keep it up!

    • Hello!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your opinion, I’m glad it was nice to read, it means a lot!! I sometimes think I may write my posts too colloquially or maybe not even appropriately, but I’m glad you liked it!!!

And I see your point, you’re totally right, the fact that it was scary should’ve added points, I guess I rated it subjectively. I’ll change the rating, thank you so much for the suggestion!
And totally, I think more believable scary movies are the most scary, personally I’m more scared of a hacker than a ghost!

Thanks so much again, keep it up too!

  13. So I watch the trailer on Facebook and like me everyone in the comments didn’t really understand what was going on the trailer didn’t really give you much to go on except for the fact that they’re obviously trying to hide that there’s no grownups and they don’t want to be split up so instead of finding the movie skipping through the end to see what happens I decide to just Google it so thanks for the exclamation
