I was Diagnosed with PCOS?

I was Diagnosed with PCOS_

Greetings peeps!

I hope you’re having a great day! I am! So there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you for some time and I wasn’t really sure about it at first, but now I thought it was time.

On june, I was diagnosed with PCOS.

What’s PCOS?

PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The name may get you think it has to do with ovarian cysts, but it’s not the case. It’s basically a hormonal imbalance which consists of elevated androgens in women produced by obvs, ovaries.

Why is it called that then? Well, a syndrome (according to google) is a group of symptoms associated with a certain characteristic, so you have the symptoms, but not the characteristic itself. It’s like coughing, sneezing and feeling sick, without actually having bacteria or a virus affecting your body. So you have the symptoms, but you don’t have THAT. You know what I mean? I don’t know.

There’s a condition which is PCOD, which is Polycystic Ovary Disease, that’s when you DO have ovarian cysts. Actually the name shouldn’t have to do with cysts at all cause I read you can still have PCOS even in both ovaries were removed. 😂😂

It doesn’t have a cure, but there is treatment.

Symptoms:

The most common ones are:

  • Irregular periods or not periods at all
  • Heavy periods
  • Excessive amounts of bodily hair and unwanted hair growth (sometimes women get beards)
  • A lot of acne
  • Infertility
  • Patches of darker hair in some areas
  • Pelvic pain
  • Difficulty losing weight

And some more. Not everyone has all of these symptoms. I have only the first four, apart from the beard, thank god.

There are also few diseases related to it, and by that I mean you have a higher risk to develop them if you have PCOS. There is: Type 2 diabetes, endometrial cancer, obstructive sleep apnea, heart disease, depression, anxiety, obesity… So far I have none of that so don’t worry. 😅

Anyway, let’g go back to me!

Storytime:

So for years my periods have been very heavy and irregular, the pediatrician (by that time) said it was normal the first year or 2, but it’s been almost 5 now. So my mum and I went to the doctor few months ago and we told her about that.

This is the best part: she sent me to the Gynecologyst. 😱😂

The first time we went was just to check my hair growth and to tell them my symptoms, pretty much the same as we had done with the doctor before. I thought they were gonna see my hooha (I’ve never done THAT but maybe it was for a protocole), but luckily they didn’t! Then months after we went there AGAIN to do an ultrasound and see if I had cysts. I didn’t.

And BOOM, diagnosis!

They told me to take *don’t freak out* the birth control pills as treatment. 😬

Goddamn, I never ever thought I was going to take a contraceptive method, I think doing that thing without wanting to have a kid is despicable. Judge me if you want, I think so. So I never thought I would take any of that sh*t.

Cause kids, what’s the best contraceptive method really? Abstinence. Don’t get me wrong, you can do whatever the eff you want with your life, it’s none of my business, that was just my opinion.

Back to PCOS, actually 14% of women who take the pill have PCOS, which is cool. Well, it’s not cool to have it, but… forget it. *face palm*

Anyway, I have to take it at least until November (so my next appointment with the “lady doctor” I hate that name) to see if there has been any change. I hope there is, maybe soon I’ll talk about my symptoms and my “journey” taking dat effing pill and that stuff! 😊

🦄🦄🦄

I also wanna share more stuff cause September is the Official PCOS Awareness Month yaaaay! 🎉🎉 Dude, making this post and saying this makes me feel like I just came out 🌈😂😂

Enough of the bad jokes, I actually find it hard to share this, it’s not as much of a big deal to me as it’s not causing a lot of bad things in my body and shtuff, but it’s something I consider very personal and I’m the youngest *and only irl* person I know who has this, which shouldn’t matter at all, but yeah.

I wanted to make this post so if any of you doesn’t know what it is, at least I taught you something. And if there’s anyone you know who has it, maybe this post made it understand better, although I didn’t explain much and every person is different.

Also, if you have it, hi hello! Let’s be friends!

I also wanted to introduce myself in the PCOS community and meet people who have that too and hear their stories and everything. I’ve followed couple of blogs about PCOS and I can’t wait to be “active” in this thing!

I always talk about funny stuff on my blog, which I think is totally cool, but I’d also like to share things like this that are important and that also involve other people. I’ll still obvs do that same I’ve always been doing in this blog, I just wanted to add a series of posts about this topic! *and it’s going to be a lot cause dis is a long term thang*

🦄🦄🦄

So yeah, that’s it, I think. There’s nothing really more I have to say now. Well actually: kids, go to the doctor if you haven’t gotten your period in 5 months, you may be developing uterine cancer. I’m serious. Always go to the doctor if there’s something weird going on. Always.

Share your thoughts with me!

Did you know what PCOS was? Do you have it? Any similar thing? Do you know anyone with any period related illness? Tell meeeeeeeeee

I hope you liked this post as much as I liked making it! I hope you learned something new I guess! I hope you have an amazing day/night and an amazing week!

Massive hugs!

  1. Okay so I didn’t know PCOS and PCOD were different things?! I thought the D was Disorder. You’ve done so much research! I didn’t because my mum had it so I just took it at name value 😂 whatever we get prescribed to help, it’s usually not birth control pills. We, as a society, haven’t completely accepted pills because “women gotta have kids” ane such, but it’s more frequent on the actual women wanting pills. But for anything else, we don’t. I myself am allergic to some antibiotics and have had bad reactions so my family doctor just told me to try with natural food like passion fruit and kiwi. It’s still irregular but it comes once in a few months.

    • You didn’t know? Well yeah turns out they are. And yeah, the D is disorder, the other one is just symptoms cause it’s a syndrome. And you think so? Yeah maybe I did, I don’t know, I only know what it consists of, the symptoms and related illnesses hehe 😛
Yeah omg I actually wouldn’t like taking the pills, I kinda think it’s meanie to wanna do that and not want kids *sigh* maybe I’m wrong but yeah, I don’t like it either :/
And yeah, I think diets are good for that, I haven’t tried it, but I think it would be good hehe 😂

Btw I’m SO SORRY for the late reply, your comment got burried in my notifications

      • haha it’s okay, I understand! I’m pro-birth pills because while we want kids, we might not be ready for them. I would want to wait until I can provide for the kids first.

  2. I never heard of PCOS until now. My friend was put on the pill by a doctor because her periods were very painful and heavy but she didn’t talk about it much. This was interesting to read, I’m glad you shared it on your blog! 😄

  3. I never heard of PCOS before! A friend of mine has something similar (acne, facial and very irregular and heavy periods) but I never knew it has a name. Me and my friends made a TMI squad a very long time ago where we talked about periods (surprisingly, not a lot of people like to talk about periods like it’s a human thing that happens to 99% of females??) and she told us how she still didn’t get her period after 2 and a half months. Stupid twelve year old me went to the health teacher and asked if there’s a possibility my friend was pregnant. I feel awful now but we still laugh about how the teacher reacted to this day. Anyways, this was really interesting to know about. Hope it gets better and I totally get what you mean by posting important things once in a while. So glad there are groups out there and awareness months – can’t wait to hear about how it goes.

    • Never? LOL actually me neither until my mum saw my symptoms 😛 Yeah maybe she wasn’t diagnosed and didn’t tell you the name, idk
And omg they didn’t like to talk about it? And why did you have that TMI squad of they didn’t wanna talk about it? And omg yeah my friends were like that, all of them denied until not a long time ago :/
Omg really? How? Why did you ask the teacher that? 😛
And awww thank you, yeah I’m happy I get to share these things 😀 Yaaay I actually was really happy when I found out there was an awareness month 😛

Thanks so much fro your comment!!!!! 😀 ❤

      • Nooo I mean girls outside of the TMI squad haha. 😂
Because I was so stupid lol 😂 I thought irregular periods were a huge problem and that if you don’t get it, you’re automatically pregnant. 🤦
        No problem!

  5. Hey, thanks so much for telling us. You’ve really educated me and this post could help a lot of people realise what it is! I think there’s so much stigma around taking the pill when it isn’t always for contraceptive purposes. Thanks for this and I hope the treatments work, or have more of an effect!! 🙂

  6. While I’m sorry to find yet another lovely lady with PCOS, in a way it’s so nice to know I’m not alone (not by far!). I was diagnosed with PCOS in June as well, and put on birth control as well as Metformin to help lower testosterone and ease some of these obnoxious symptoms. I also wanted to share with you that PCOS doesn’t HAVE to be managed with medication- changing your diet or adding in certain foods (depending on your eating habits now) can result in drastic improvements! There are so many natural ways and supplements that can help lower testosterone (spearmint tea, saw palmetto), lower insulin (cinnamon, apple cider vinegar), and help with feeling better overall (vitamins, healthy diet). I’m already working towards eliminating the worst culprits in my own diet- all the things I love, which means sweets and carbs. Anyway, I’m glad I found your page, and I hope your journey with this goes well!

    • Awww thank you, but it’s not so bad in my case *at least for now hehe*, and yeah, it’s good to see that people out there understand what you’re going through 🙂
Omg really? What a coincidence!! 😮 And yeah, food is also important to treat that, but my gynecologist told me to take it at least until November. And thanks for the tips, I ‘ll tell my mum so she helps me with that hehe 😂😂
I’m so glad you stumbled upon this post!!!! 😀 ❤ Thank you so much, I hope so too! I hope your journey with it goes well too! 🙂 How have your symptoms been? Have you been improving?

Thank you so much for this comment, it made my day!!! By the way sorry for the late reply, whoops!
