My Thoughts on Spanish Music

*and yeah, I get that map missed some of the spanish speaking countries*

Greetings peeps!

I hope you’re all having a great day!! So today I thought of talking about music, but not just music in general, I’m gonna talk about music in spanish, because I’ve never done it here.

Also, I’m Spanish, so I thought why not?

My Thoughts On Spanish Music:

Music from Spain:

So most of my life I’ve lived in Spain, and I don’t know if it’s because of that, but I’ve never been too much too Spanish songs. Also, all my life my parents have played American music from the 80’s, 90’s… So maybe I wasn’t used to Spanish music?

I mean, I also had never listened to the latest songs in the car and still I liked them when I heard them in shops or parties or whatever.

But I guess it’s different. Like, culturally the music is different, you can tell in many Spanish songs people put a lot of energy in singing, however that doesn’t mean their singing is amazing *in my opinion* nor does it mean the melody is great.

Also, songs from 80’s and 90’s in Spain, except VERY few, they all pretty much suck.

Music from Mexico:

Like I said before, most of my life I lived in Spain, so I wasn’t really familiar with mexican music. I mean, I recognize some traditional songs which I like, and obvs there’s other ones I strongly dislike.

But yeah, I don’t know many songs from these days nor from 80’s and 90’s.

Reggaton:

Ok so all of my life I’ve hated reggaeton, the rythm wasn’t something I was into, nor did I like what the songs were saying. And I know what you’re thinking: Music in English is also dirty and just all songs all over the world talk about sex nowadays.

Ok yeah, but as my mother language is Spanish, everything sounds stronger in Spanish. If you insult me in English it isn’t gonna hurt me as much as it would in Spanish.

Sadly, it works like that.

But since I was about 13 I started going out therefore listening to more reggaeton in parties and all. – cause reggaeton in Spanish speaking countries is everywhere – and I started liking a song or two. I didn’t want to admit it, I think the first time I said to someone I liked some reggaeton songs was probably 2 years later, when I was 15. I’m not sure though.

I don’t like all songs, I actually like very little in comparison to all of the ones that come out every year. Let’s say out of 20 I usually like 3 or 4 at most.
