Types of Synesthesia I Have

Types of Synesthesia I Have

Greetings peeps!

Wassup? I hope you’re all having a good day! I am! So today I thought about talking about Synesthesia again, because I think it’s really cool and it’s really really interesting to me.

And also I have it, so why not talk about it? And also, who better to explain how it feels than someone who experiences it, right? So yeah!

In case you haven’t read my post announcing I had it, explaining what it was, causes and how I found out I had it, click here!! Now let’s go:

Types of Synesthesia I Have:

I’m obviously going to first explain each of the types and then I’m gonna tell you a little bit about how it feels and how I experience them.

Graphemecolor Synesthesia

This is the most common type of Synesthesia. Anyone that has this usually associates numbers and letters to colors. They have a color for each letter and a color for every number.

To me, for instance, 8 and the letter o are blue and 9 and letter a are pink. 7 and e are orange and 6 and letter i are yellow. Letter x is grey and letter y has like a mustard color. 10 is grey, 5 is a really dark purple and so on…

So yeah, every time I read or do maths, in my brain there’s a lot of color, hehe 😝 That’s why the titles in this post are written in various colors, because that’s how they look in my mind.

Ordinal Linguistic Personification

This one isn’t that common, but it has a lot to do with Grapheme-color Synesthesia. Basically someone with Ordinal Linguistic Personification experiences what the name itself says. We personalities associated with numbers and colors.

For me, 8 is a boy, and so it letter o (they’re basically equivalent), 9 and a are girls (and they’re also equivalent). 6 and i are girls (equivalent too) and 7 and e are boys (equivalent too). The thing with 6 being female and 7 being male is that they don’t represent the gender. Like, 8 represents being a boy, like he’s THE boy and 9 is THE girl, you know?

I know that made no sense at all 😂😂

Chromesthesia

This one is also pretty common, but not as much as the first one. Bascially with Chromesthesia you experience “seeing” a sequence of colors and shapes moving and mixing with each other when you hear sounds. People experience this when they hear someone’s voice, when they listen to music…

Me, when I hear a high pitched voice, I see yellow and when someone’s voice is dark, I see dark colors, like black, dark grey, dark blue or purple…

And when I listen to music, I see like clouds of color mixing with each other and they can change or more colors can come in when a new instrument begins to play. So yeah, songs can look good or bad, depending on the colors and the pattern, regardless of the sound itself.

Time Spatial Synesthesia

In this one you basically see time in space. You’re probably thinking: What? Time in space? Yeah, you heard well. It sounds like a superpower or like we have the ability to see time and blah blah… but literally it’s just our brain perceiving time as visual stimuli.

For instance, sometimes I see the months of the year in a circle. I’m facing the month we’re currently in and I’m in the middle of the circle. I also have colors for every month and day of the week.

time spacial sequence synesthesia

I also see weeks like in a line.

Misophonia

I’ve said on my other post that Synesthesia isn’t considered an illness, as it doesn’t mess up people’s lives nor it has any cons to it. However, Misophonia, which is considered by some a type of Synesthesia, IS actually considered an illness.

When someone has Misophonia is basically means that certain sounds, like beats in songs, for instance, trigger negative emotions like fear, anger, sadness etc.

Some songs might be upbeat and really positive, however, there can be something to the beat that triggers me sadness, and I feel sad when I listen to the song. They don’t remind me of sad memories, they just sound too sad and make me sad. The’re many upbeat songs I refuse to listen to because of this, cause they make me feel pretty bad.

One good example is the song “Once in a While” by Timeflies. The song is good, I just feel too bad when I listen to it. I first heard it in 2017, I haven’t listened to it since that year.

Spatial Sequence Synesthesia

Spacial sequence Synesthesia consists of “seeing” numbers in space and have a location for each one. For me, I see 0 to the left and then numbers continue to the right infinitely.

Other people, for instance, see some numbers closer to them than others.

Number Form

Number form consists os “seeing” or having a “map” where numbers are located, that map has a certain shape.

I’m not sure if I have this one, because I see numbers in a line, like I said before, I’m just not sure if it counts as a shape. Technically it is, but you know. Like I said, numbers are in a line that goes from left to right.

🧠🧠🧠

And that was pretty much all! I didn’t think it was gonna take me so much to explain these, huh. I had a lot of fun though, did you?

Share your thoughts with me!

Do you have Synesthesia? If so, what types do you have? If you don’t have it, did you know what it was? Do you think it’s cool? What songs make you sad? What’s the strangest type in your opinion? Tell me!!!!!!!!

I hope y’all liked this post as much as I liked making it! I’ll make more synesthesia posts, I have some things planned, hehe! I hope y’all have an amazing day/night and I’ll see ya!

Massive hugs!
Ana Regina 🦄
